Kogi state government on Thursday said the state till this very moment is Covid-19 free, saying “we will not be a party to any fictitious Covid-19 claims,”.

This statement is direct opposite of what Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC ) presented to world on Monday night.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on its official twitter handle, said two cases have been recorded in Kogi state.

However, the Hon. Commissioner for Health Kogi State, Dr Saka Audu in a press statement issued said the state have developed full testing capacity and have conducted hundreds of tests so far which have come back negative.

The statement read thus, “We have also continued to insist that we will not be a party to any fictitious Covid-19 claims which is why we do not recognise any Covid-19 test conducted by any Kogite outside the boundaries of the State except those initiated by us.

Any attempt to force us to announce a case of Covid-19 will be vehemently rejected.

“We continue to enjoin our people to take all necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic into the State and give no listening ears to rumour peddlers and mischief makers.

“We are more than prepared to secure the life of our people and have no interest in playing politics with their Health concerns.

You recall that the staff of NCDC left Kogi State disappointed earlier last week after Governor Yahaya Bello requested the delegation to go on isolation for 14 days after which they can carry out their official assignment.

Ourworlgist gathered that the order did not go down well with the NCDC visiting staff and this time around, they have gone back to reienforced of declaring Kogi Covid-19 state.

With Kogi state Government debunking their report, we shall update you as the drama plays out between NCDC and Kogi State Government in the days ahead.
