Just In: CJN Calls 1,785 Barristers, Solicitors To Bar

Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammadu, yesterday being 15th September 2020 unveiled 1,785 students of the Nigerian Law School as barristers and solicitors to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Speaking at the ceremony that was marked on a low key as a result of COVID- 19  Pandemic  held at Eagle Square Abuja, the CJN cautioned the newly admitted lawyers to the Nigerian Bar to shun acts capable of bringing the legal profession to disrepute.

He also charged them to perform their role as legal practitioners with integrity and competence, stressing that the Body of Benchers would not hesitate to expel any erring lawyer from the legal profession if found wanting.

He, therefore enjoined the new lawyers on professional development so as to keep themselves abreast of latest developments in the profession, country and across the globe.

Also speaking, Director General, Nigerian Law School, Professor Idama Hayatu Chiroma (SAN) stated that the newly inducted lawyers were products of the 2019 Bar resit examination and regular students for 2020.

Congratulating the lawyers, Professor Idama Chiroma tasked them to excel anywhere they find themselves.

In his speech, he says, \”products of the School have commanding presence in other spheres of public and private sector such as the military, police, customs, immigration, oil and gas sector, banking and finance, insurance and the corporate world, and as lecturers in universities and other tertiary institutions\”.

“Some of these products have achieved profound feat of getting to the top of their career nationally and internationally,” he stated.

Chiroma explained that 1,779 candidates were successful in the February 2020 Bar Final examinations, while 6 were from the previous Bar Final Examinations.

He noted that the Council of Legal Education in 2016 approved that resit students for the Bar Final Examinations should undertake a two-month revision exercise for eligibility to write the examinations.

Meanwhile, cross section of the newly call to bar lawyers who spoke with ourworldgist expressed joy as they were all in high spirit for the dispensation of justice in Nigeria.

Of particular reference to one Barrister M.I Okpanachi Esq, she said, \”it has been a tough journey, however, I dedicate this victory to God almighty who has made it possible for me to achieve this hieght.
